Attiveri Bird Sanctuary was created due to the construction of a dam across the Tayawwanahalla in the village of Attiveri. Ever since then the reservoir has attracted a wide variety of aviators especially of the aquatic kind. Attiveri attracts about 79 species of Birds every year from about 22 countries.
